This four-person play tells the story of two 50-something sisters, Elizabeth Borny and Quilly McGrath, who share an apartment in 1943 Harlem. The older sister, Elizabeth, in need of some rent relief, takes in a young male boarder from South Carolina named Husband Witherspoon. Husband is a sweet, naive, mama’s boy who travels to Harlem to find his lost love, Lou Bessie. He is taken aback by Lou Bessie’s manipulative ways and turns to Elizabeth for comfort and companionship. Even though Quilly vociferously disapproves of Elizabeth's growing attachment to Husband, Elizabeth allows her passion to overcome her good sense.
